SCPS Mission
The mission of Seminole County
Public Schools is to
ensure that
all
students acquire the
knowledge,
skills and attitudes
to be
productive citizens.

STEAM

One day each week all students participate in STEaM, integrated Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and/or Math electives led by our Stenstrom Elementary teachers and staff. A variety of elective choices may include Lego Robotics, Fun with Forensics, WolfQuest, Amazing Animals, Kitchen Science, Chess Club and Measurement Houses, just to name only a few. Students select a specified number of electives and are assigned to one of his/her interests each period. Our Fall STEaM sessions begin in October and our Spring sessions resume in again in January.

Project-Based Learning

Through PBL, students focus on significant content while developing 21st century competencies.  Projects, are organized around a driving question(s) that establishes a need to know and engages students in in-depth inquiry. Learners are encouraged to exhibit their voice and choice as they prepare a final product for their public audience.

Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run® is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. Thank you to our dedicated staff supervisors for supporting these amazing girls.

Curiosity Commons

All students K-5 visit Curiosity Commons during their Specials rotation to engage with digital learning lessons aligned with the Florida Computer Science Standards, explore and create solutions using MakerSpace engineering and design tools, and borrow books of interest from our library.

Digital Literacy

Seminole County Public Schools envisions a learning environment that prepares all students to live and work in a global, information-rich, and digitally-driven world. All of Stenstrom’s students receive digital literacy instruction in order to prepare them to engage in personalized, learner-centered, flexible, and resource-rich lessons; lessons which incorporate: creativity and innovation, communication and collaboration, information and media literacy, career and occupational skills, and life and interpersonal skills. Each K-5 Stenstrom student also receives coding instruction in their regular education classroom and during their Digital Literacy lessons. All Stenstrom learners participate in the Hour of Code event that takes place each December. Many students may also explore coding further through a variety of STEAM electives as well.

Garden of Growth

The Stenstrom Garden of Growth is a living outdoor classroom, centrally located on our school campus. We are grateful for our parent volunteers that dedicate their time and resources to maintain the garden and cultivate our butterfly habitat.  It is not uncommon to see our students conducting experiments, observing nature or gathered around an emerging butterfly on any given day.

Coding

We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and less students are studying it than a decade ago.

That’s why all K-5 Stenstrom students are guided by their classroom teachers through the Code-focused, Seminole County Public Schools' Computer Science 2020 curriculum. This systematic and developmental coding curriculum provides every student an opportunity to hone their computer programming skills. Also, many students may also explore coding through a variety of STEAM electives. Lastly, all K-5 Stenstrom students join in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week each December. More than 100 million students worldwide participate in an Hour of Code

Our commitment to computer science is a statement that Stenstrom is ready to teach these foundational 21st century skills. This is a chance to change the future of education starting here in Oviedo.

Runners Club

Stenstrom's Runners Club, collaborating with other SCPS elementary schools, provides the opportunity for active Stallions to participate in numerous weekend track meets throughout the school year. To prepare for meets, Stenstrom's runners gather each week just before school for a few laps around the track.  Stenstrom is dedicated to the purpose of choices in learning and through Stenstrom's Runners Club, all learners may explore their athletic talents.  Thank you to our PE coach for his dedicated supervisory role.
